Purf

Purf is a company founded on man’s best friend with the ocean. Two friends from Boni, Australia never went to the ocean without their fellow companions Sam and Keniki. Purf wants to share its unique bonding experience and encourage others to participate. Purf was founded in 2011 and the word is a combination of pup and surf together. They sell surfboards, apparel, and equipment for you and your dog. It is the one-stop-shop surfers need.

Sketches

At one point I wanted to integrate the sun but it did not feel right. This is the kind of logo that is going to start a culture and people are going to want to represent the brand. I tried sketching out some paw prints but it felt overdone. I thought a paw print on a surfboard would really get the point across but it did not look quite right. A paw print with a wave inside would look interesting.

Concepts

Nothing is more recognizable than a dog’s silhouette. The only difficult thing was deciding on whether the dog ears should be up or down. As much as surfing is it is something that needs a lot of focus and a dog with lifted ears is more alert. Blue was going to be given to represent water. I wanted the typeface to feel a little rough and have a beach vibe that is friendly. Batavia Sans stood out the most to me and looked well with the illustration. The typeface Congratulations had a nice handwritten look that fit the whole vibe of the company.

Packaging

Plan was to create shopping bag, shipping box, box for surfer’s wax, and packaging for a dog leash. It has to have a surfer vibe and include the dog factor. I want people to think of the ocean and dogs. This is a fun outdoor company to get people involved outside with their dogs. To capture the hand-drawn element of this project, I used thick strokes of acrylic paint in different shades. Surfers wax is in a drawer box and shopping bag has a wave cut out on top.
